چکیده

Health state utility data generated using the EQ-5D instrument are typically right bounded at one with a substantial gap to the next set of observations, left bounded by some negative value, and are multi modal. These features present challenges to the estimation of the e¤ect of clinical and socioeconomic characteristics on health utilities. We present an adjusted censored model and then use this in a ‡exible, mixture modelling framework to address these issues. We demonstrate superior performance of this model compared to linear regression and Tobit censored regression using a dataset from repeated observations of patients with rheumatoid arthritis. We …nd that three latent classes are appropriate in estimating EQ-5D from function, pain and sociodemographic factors. Analysis of utility data should apply methods that recognise the distributional features of the data. Using the Multiple Sclerosis Impact Scale to estimate health state utility values: mapping from the MSIS-29, version 2, to the EQ-5D and the SF-6D.

OBJECTIVES The 29-item Multiple Sclerosis Impact Scale (MSIS-29) is a psychometrically validated patient-reported outcome measure increasingly used in trials of treatments for multiple sclerosis. However, it is non-preference-based and not amenable for use across policy decision-making contexts. Our objective was to statistically map from the MSIS-29, version 2, to the EuroQol five-dimension (E...

Inequalities in Health Status from EQ-5D Findings: A Cross-Sectional Study in Low-Income Communities of Bangladesh

Background Measuring health status by using standardized and validated instrument has become a growing concern over the past few decades throughout the developed and developing countries. The aim of the study was to investigate the overall self-reported health status along with potential inequalities by using EuroQol 5 dimensions (EQ-5D) instrument among low-income people of Bangladesh.   Metho...

Assessing outcomes for cost-utility analysis in mental health interventions: mapping mental health specific outcome measure GHQ-12 onto EQ-5D-3L

BACKGROUND Many intervention-based studies aiming to improve mental health do not include a multi-attribute utility instrument (MAUI) that produces quality-adjusted life-years (QALYs) and it limits the applicability of the health economic analyses. This study aims to develop 'crosswalk' transformation algorithm between a measure for psychological distress General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12) a...

A comparison of direct and indirect methods for the estimation of health utilities from clinical outcomes.

BACKGROUND Analysts frequently estimate health state utility values from other outcomes. Utility values like EQ-5D have characteristics that make standard statistical methods inappropriate. We have developed a bespoke, mixture model approach to directly estimate EQ-5D. An indirect method, "response mapping," first estimates the level on each of the 5 dimensions of the EQ-5D and then calculates ...

Ethnic differences in health related quality of life for patients with type 2 diabetes

BACKGROUND The objective of this study was to investigate the association between ethnicity and health related quality of life (HRQoL) in patients with type 2 diabetes. METHODS The EuroQol EQ-5D measure was administered to 1,978 patients with type 2 diabetes in the UK Asian Diabetes Study (UKADS): 1,486 of south Asian origin (Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi or other south Asian) and 492 of whi...
